Do you have a strong Internet connection?

  • Hard wire connection to the Internet is best
  • If using Wi-Fi, can you get to other websites quickly?
    • How fast are your search results returned from https://www.google.com/?
      • If your search results return slowly, your Internet connection may be slow and causing connection to our website to time out

What URL are you trying to access?

Have you logged in before?

Has it been a long time since you logged in?

  • If you've logged in before, but it was before November 2014, you will need to migrate your account to the new website. You can migrate your account by signing in with your old username and password. All usernames are now email addresses, and after signing in with your old username the system will prompt you to update your account to make email address your username.
  • If you have logged in before, and it was since Nov '14, click the 'Forgot Password?' link on the sign in screen to have the system send you an email to get logged back into your account.

Is the screen just flipping and not logging you in?

  • If you are entering email and password at https://hbr.org/sign-in and the screen is just flipping, add HBR.org to your list of trusted websites with your privacy and security software.

What is the username you're trying to log in?

  • Your username is an email address
  • Although in the past we allowed usernames that were not email addresses, all accounts now have email address as username
  • The email address on your account for contact purposes is the same as your username

Are you getting the 'You have entered an invalid email and password combination. Please try again.' message?

  • Is the caps lock on?
    • The username is not case sensitive, but the password is. If you have caps lock on, unless your password is in all caps, your sign in will fail
  • Click the 'Forgot Password?' link on the sign in screen to have the system send you an email to get logged back into your account.

When was the last time you cleared your history/cleaned your browser?

  • Clearing the cache/history, closing out of all instances of the browser, then opening up a fresh instance of the browser can often resolve issues.
